Nnamdi Azikiwe University Senate at its sitting S/2009/-010/m.141/155 deliberated and approved the establishment of the Department of Soil Science and Land Resources (SSL) alongside six other Departments under the Faculty of Agriculture (AGR). However due to acute shortage of manpower, the Department of Soil Science was not able to commence academic activities immediately. The pioneer students of the Department were admitted in 2012/2013 Academic session.
Since the inception, the Departmental strength (staff and students) have continued to grow at a geometric progression. The Department has graduated two sets as at the moment and is working tirelessly to bring her post graduate programme on board.
